Health Experts Issue Warning Over Infected

Residents of Fort Collins were surprised after spotting rabbits with horn-like growths on their heads. While the animals look alarming, experts say there’s no need to worry.

The condition is caused by Shope papillomavirus, a well-known infection in wild rabbits. It creates wart-like tumors that can resemble horns, which likely inspired myths like the Jackalope.

Wildlife officials explain the virus spreads through fleas and ticks but does not affect humans or pets. In most cases, rabbits recover on their own, and the growths eventually disappear.

So despite their “zombie” appearance, these rabbits aren’t dangerous — just dealing with a strange but natural virus. VIDEO BELOW
